APIA estimates an increase of new cars sales of 8.5% in 2011
Agerpres - 25 Ianuarie 2011
The Association of Manufacturers and Importers of Automobiles in Romania (APIA) estimates for 2011 an increase of about 8.5 percent in the new car sales, up to 115,000 units, and relies on a balance between second hand cars deliveries and the new cars sales.
'The outlook for 2011, in our estimation, is that it will be a difficult year, similar to 2010. The target for this year is of around 115,000 car units, very challenging to be attained. To all this, the overall economic situation must be added, which will continue to be difficult, following the financiers' reluctance to credit car purchases and, last but not least, maintaining the VAT non-deduction throughout the year', Ernest-Virgil Popovici, APIA president, said on Monday, in a press conference.
In turn, Brent Valmar, APIA vice president, said that the sales of new cars and second-hand ones could reach a balance, and estimated for 2011 deliveries of some 200,000 units of used vehicles.
'Perhaps, sometime, normality should be reflected in the parity between new and second hand cars imports. Certainly this year this is hard to be attained, maybe about 115,000 and 200,000 second-hand car imports. What is noteworthy here is that there is a need for high mobility in Romania, and the need for mobility is covered either by the market of new cars or by uncontrolled imports. What we hope is that the active presence of the two local producers will lead to a sufficiently strong supply and suitable to the purchasing power of the clients in Romania, 'Valmar said.
According to APIA data, presented on Monday, in a press conference, sales of new cars registered last year saw a decrease of 18.3 percent compared with data from 2009, reaching by December-end at 106,328 units.
