Tanasescu (IMF): Cooperation with IMF to begin with streamlining certain areas
ACTMedia - 26 Ianuarie 2011
The talks between Romanian authorities and the International Monetary Fund delegation regarding future cooperation will start from a major obligation for Romanian economy, namely to streamline certain areas, by speeding the structural reforms, Mihai Tanasescu, Romania's representative at IMF, told RFI radio on Tuesday.
'Talks will begin around a possible new cooperation Romania-IMF-EU, then data and aspects specific to this new cooperation will be made public by the Romanian authorities at the end of this visit,... the prerogative of signing the new agreement falls with the authorities in Bucharest. Therefore, I believe these talks about a new cooperation will start from a major prerequisite of the Romanian economy, that is the streamline of certain areas, by speeding up structural reforms. We have in mind here the governmental companies, the areas concerning labour market, health, education. Consequently, there are talks on various matters and certainly, we will draft the future agreement according to the results of the aforementioned talks,' Tanasescu said.
He added that he does not perceive a common solution for all companies, so each one should analysed separately, on a medium-term, to streamline production. Another major factor is that the companies should bring revenues to the state budget, not necessarily to receive financial support.
As regards the arrears, Mihai Tanasescu said that was a much more complex matter, a structural matter, derived from the past, met both in public administration and companies, and in local communities, and that this issue would be gradually solved, during the current year, on each and every level.
