National car fleet reaches 5.42 million cars, out of which 20 percent registered in Bucharest (DRPCIV)

The Romanian car fleet total number pf vehicles at the end of 2010 was by 100,000 units larger than in the previous year, reaching 5.42 million units, out of which 20 percent are registered in Bucharest, show the data of the Directorate for Driving Licence Regime and Vehicle Registration (DRPCIV) of the Capital Police, published on Tuesday, January 25.
Most of the cars are registered in Bucharest (1.17 million units), while in Cluj (western Romania) and in Timisoara (western Romania) their number exceeds 200,000.
Out of the total number of cars registered nationwide in 2010, 3,221,317 units (63 percent) were petrol cars and the remaining 1,944,333 units (37 percent) were diesel cars.
Also, over 638,000 new or under two year old cars were in circulation nationwide, while more than 932,000 units were older than 20 years.
Most of the cars in traffic in 2010, namely 1,289,634 units, were between 6 and 10 years old.
Depending on the type, the largest number of vehicles registered last year was that of cars (4,307,290 units), followed by vans (486,373) and trailers (172,540).
According to DRPCIV, almost 70,000 mixed cars, approximately 67,000 semi trailers, over 66,000 trucks and 53,201 motorcycles are also registered nationwide.
Against the background of the DRPCIV data centralization for 2010, the Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association of Romania on Monday, January 24, announced that the new car sales registered an 18.3 percent decline in 2010 compared with the data of 2009, amounting to 106,328 units at the end of December.
