Euromonitor : consumption expenditure in Romania will grow moderately by 2020

Consumption expenditure in Romania were last year of 4,600 dollar/inhabitant and will record by 2020 a moderate increase, reduced by the decrease and ageing of the population, as well as by the faded economic growth, according to Euromonitor International.
The market analysis company anticipates for 2012 consumption expenditure for inhabitant of 5,300 dollars, followed by 6,100 dollars in 2014 and 7,000 dollars in 2016.
For 2018, Euromonitor estimates the expenditure will reach 8,000 dollars and in 2020 it will reach 9,200 dollars.
In the case of income per capita available for expenditure and saving, Euromonitor calculated 4,600 dollars in 2010, anticipating they will advance up to 5,300 dollars in 2012, 6,200 dollars in 2014 and 7,300 dollars in 2016.
The company estimates an increase of the income to 8,400 dollars in 2018 and 9,700 dollars in 2020.
Romania is a big market in expansion and is fourth in Eastern Europe as regards the annual income of the population available for expenditure and savings, which, in 2009 were 91,3 billion dollars.
The first three positions are in Russia, with 743.6 billion dollars, Poland with 266.3 billion dollars and the Czech Republic with 103.2 billion dollars.
The survey shows that Romania is a poor country, and the increase of income and consumption expenditure will be moderate.
The country has, no doublt, a middle class and increasing, on which the traders should concentrate.
In 2009, there was a deep drop of consumption expenditure but between 2009 – 2020 a considerable advance of expenditure in the sector of health and transport is expected.
Euromonitor observes that significant differences are kept between consumption expenditure in Bucharest and the rural environment.
Romania was much affected by the economic crisis. Annual income per capita, available for expenditure and savings dropped in 2009 by 11.1% in real terms against 2008.
Consumption expenditure per capita recorded the same year a decline of 12.7%.
The long-term growth of these indices is constrained by the drop and ageing of population as well as by the slow economic advance.
In 2009, the young professionals between 30 and 34 recorded the highest gross average income.
In Bucharest and the adjacent areas there was the highest increase in consumption expenditure in the country and there are big differences between the capital city and the rural area.
In 2009, the richest 30% of the households made over half of the consumption expenditure for clothing and footwear, transport, communications, leisure time, education, hotels and catering.
In Eastern Europe, Euromonitor anticipates the increase of consumption expenditure per capita from 5,200 dollars last year to 11,500 dollars in 2020.
