In Romania, art sales exceeded EUR 8 mn in 2010

Art auction market is twice as much in 2010, the level exceeding 8 million euros, compared to 3.7 million in 2009, Artmark House representatives announced, on Tuesday, in a press conference.
They pointed out that in 2010 this art house sales totaled 5.5 million euros, representing 68 percent of the auction houses sales. According to the same classification, Alis accounts for 15 percent of sales, GoldArt - 14 percent and Monavissa, Araart and Quadro - one percent each.
'Investments in art were superior to all other investments, be it Euros, gold or real estate,' said one of the managers of Artmark, Manuela Plapcianu.
Last year, the best sold work of art by Artmark was in December 2010, the 'Shepherd girl', signed by Nicolae Grigorescu being adjudicated for 175,000 euros.
This year, Artmark will hold 16 auctions, the first two sessions taking place on Thursday, 'Black & White' and the 'Auction of the Ladies of Romanian Fine Arts'. At the 'Black & White' session the star is the work 'Behind the scenes' by Joseph Iser, estimated at 6,000-9,000 euros, and at the 'Auction of the Ladies of Romanian Fine Arts' the stars are paintings by Rodica Maniu Mutzner -' Beach ', estimated at a value between 40,000 - 50,000 euros, and 'Confidants' at 17,500 to 25,000 euros. Artmark two auctions will be held at the Marriott Grand Hotel.
