Trade between Romania and Italy rises in 2010
Agerpres - 28 Ianuarie 2011
The trade between Romania and Italy rose in 2010 to over 7.6 billion euros, up by 16.5% from 2009, with Italian firms having contributed by some 7-8% to Romania's GDP, the Romanian Foreign Ministry's State Secretary for European Affairs Bogdan Aurescu told a Thursday's press conference after a meeting with his Italian counterpart Alfredo Mantica.
At the same time, the Romanian companies in Italy and the Romanians working in Italy contribute approximately 1.2% to Italy's GDP. No doubt, the fact that Italy continues to rank second in terms of trade volume between Romania and any other state is extremely telling, Aurescu pointed out.In his turn, the Italian official said the economic relation between the two countries is excellent, although there are things to improve.
'As in all healthy relations, there are also downs, but certainly these will be overcome and do not affect the positive character of the relationship between Italy and Romania. We are very interested in nuclear power generation, we are very interested in the plans for infrastructure, transport, we have big Italian companies that are looking at Romania carefully and so there are still perspectives to improve our economic relationship,' State Secretary Alfredo Mantica said.
Thursday's Romanian-Italian consultations at the level of state secretary are part of the current dialogue between the two foreign ministries, in line with the provisions of the consolidated strategic Partnership between Romania and Italy.
This is the second round of consultations between the two officials in less than one and a half month, after the talks held in Rome on December 16, 2010, on the occasion of State Secretary Bogdan Aurescu's visit.
The two officials agreed to resume talks in a new round, in April, in Rome.
