US Toro Company invests EUR 20 mn in Romania

The US Toro Company invests in Romania about 20 million euros to build a plant producing micro-irrigation systems meant for vegetable growers, farm lands, orchards and vineyards in Eastern Europe.

The new plant will be built near Ploiesti (southern Romania) and will boost the development of agriculture in the region, but it will also support the production of micro-irrigation systems of the Toro plant in Rome, Italy.

This step makes the Toro Company come closer to the growing East European market, where micro-irrigations go on having a higher and higher share of irrigated agriculture in the region, reads a release issued by the above-mentioned company.

Romania offers many advantages due to its central position, to a good transport infrastructure and the access to qualified production resources. The decision to invest in Romania has been influenced positively by the support given by Romania's Government through the agency of the state aid scheme approved by the Ministry of Finance. The position of the factory also enables us to support the development of Romania's farming region, said Judy Altmaier, operations vice-president of the Toro Company.

She added that the project to create a production and export centre in Romania was 'an important strategic investment for Toro.'

Secretary of State with the Ministry of Public Finance Bogdan Dragoi said that the investment made by the Toro Company continued the tendency by which Romania will turn into a continuously developing production centre and an attractive option for investors.

Production is planned to start late this summer and the plant covering about 12,500 square metres will offer almost 100 jobs.

Besides the plant in Romania, Toro owns specialized units producing micro-irrigation systems in Italy, Australian and North America.

The Toro Company is one of the world producers of lawn mowing equipment and high precision irrigation systems. Having sales of almost 1.7 billion dollars in the fiscal year 2010, the Toro Company expanded to more than 80 countries.
