Eurostat: Romania the last in the EU as industrial production growth

Romania was the last but one in the EU as regards the industrial production growth of December – 4.3%- against the same month of 2009, showing that the indicator dropped in three community states, according to a Eurostat report.
The report contains data about 21 community states. Out of them, Greece, Malta and Spain recorded reductions, annually, of industrial production in December of last year of 5.2%, 3.1% and 0.1% respectively.
The highest increases of the indicator were in Estonia (38,4%), Ireland (16,9%) and Latvia (15,7%). Romania is between Portugal (3,3%) and the Netherlands (4,7%).In the EU, the industrial production went up by 7.7% in December 2010, as compared to the last month of 2009. Monthly, the production in Romania dropped in December by 0.2% against an average drop of 0.1% at community level.
Eurostat mentions the fact that the data referring to the annual evolution of the industrial production are adjusted depending on the number of working days, and the ones connected to the monthly evolution are calculated depending on the season.
The National Institute for Statistics announced last week that in December 2010 the industrial production dropped against the previous month by 11.2% as gross series and by 0.2% as adjusted series depending on the number of working days and season. Against the corresponding month of the previous year, the industrial production increased both as gross series and as adjusted series depending on the number of working days and season, by 10% and 6.5% respectively.
Last year, as compared to 2009, the industrial production increased as gross series by 5.5% and as adjuted series depending on the number of working days and season by 4.1%.
