Romania topping the EU construction output rankings for December 2010

Romania recorded the largest increase, of 17.6 percent, in construction output in December 2010, compared with November, among the European Union member states for which data were available.

Seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector fell by 1.8 percent in the EU16 euro area - Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia and Finland, and by 3.6 percent in EU 27 - EU 16 plus Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Sweden and the United Kingdom, according to data released on Thursday by the Eurostat official statistics office of the European Union.

Data released by the Romanian National Statistics Institute (INS) indicate that construction output was down 13.2 percent in 2010 in unadjusted yearly terms and 14.4 percent seasonally adjusted.
