MFP borrows over EUR 226 mn from banks

The Ministry of Public Finance (MFP), on Monday borrowed 226.17 million euros (959 million lei) from commercial banks, by issuing treasury bills at a discount, put on tender by Romania's National Bank (BNR). (1 euro = 4.24 lei).
The treasury bills' maturity is due in one year and the average yield for which the issue was accepted is 6.88 percent. The weighted average interest rate was 6.49 percent.
The total value of the issue was 1.5 billion lei and the total demand from the twelve banks bidding in the tender was 2.44 billion lei.
Thw twelve banks bidding offers to buy Government titles were the Alpha Bank Romania, BRD - Groupe Societe Generale, the Carpatica Commercial Bank, the Romanian Commercial Bank, the Transilvania Bank, Bancpost, CEC Bank, Citibank Romania, ING, Raiffeisen Bank, RBS Romania and UniCredit Tiriac Bank.
MPF borrowed in 2010 from the domestic market more than 41 billion lei, after drawing almost 65 billion in 2009. The amount of loans from banks was almost 7 billion lei in January.
