Population's lei deposits increase in January, forex deposits decrease

The lei deposits of population's households edged up by 1 percent in January up to 64.848 billion lei (about 15.25 billion euros), whereas the forex deposits plunged by 0.4 percent down to nearly 39.615 billion lei (about 9.32 billion euros), according to the data the National Bank of Romania (BNR) has published.
The lei deposits of the population's households recorded a rise of 8.2 percent (1.1 percent in real terms) on January 31, 2011 compared to January 31, 2010. The forex deposits calculated in the leu currency increased by 5.5 percent and the forex deposits of the population calculated in the euro currency rose by 2.2 percent.
On the other hand, the lei deposits of the companies (non-financial companies and non-bank financial institutions) went down by 5.9 percent to 46.362 billion lei (about 10.9 billion euros) compared to December 2010, but compared to the same period of 2010, they surged by 14.1 percent (6.7 percent in real terms).
The forex revenues of the companies (non-financial companies and non-bank financial institutions) calculated in the leu currency, plummeted by 1.3 percent down to the amount of 63.097 billion lei compared to December 2010 (the forex deposits calculated in the euro currency dropped by 0.6 percent down to 14.829 billion euros).
Compared to the same month of the previous year, the forex deposits made by companies calculated in the leu currency dropped by 10.6 percent (those calculated in the euro currency plunged by 13.4 percent).
The deposits of the non-governmental resident clients dropped by 1.8 percent in January 2011 compared to December 2010, down to 174.307 billion lei (nearly 41 billion euros).
