EcoMin Ariton: There are many opportunities for increasing Romanian exports to Gulf states
ACTMedia - 10 Martie 2011
Romanian Minister of Economy Ion Ariton believes there are many opportunities for increasing Romanian exports to the member states of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC); commercial exchanges between Romania and the GCC states have recorded positive trends over the past years, overshadowed by the financial crisis and global recession.
'Trade has recorded remarkable positive developments over the past years that were unfortunately overshadowed by the financial crisis that swiftly swept through the entire world and by global recession. We believe there are many opportunities for increasing Romanian exports to Gulf states, including food, oil equipment, power equipment, equipment for the chemicals industry, sea equipment,' Ariton told a business forum on Tuesday in Bucharest on GCC - Romania-Bucharest business opportunities in Central and South-Eastern Europe.
Unfortunately, Ariton added, the structure of Romanian exports does not include products with a high added value. 'We want to provide more efficient support for cooperation at all institutional levels, as well as at the level of employers' associations and private companies,' said Ariton.
He added that the Gulf states currently have many economic assets, are booming economies with growth rates that exceed by far the global average and enviable financial resources that are available for profitable business and investment.
In its turn, Romania is offering its GCC partners a major market of 22 million consumers in Central and South-Eastern Europe, with a strategic position between the Black Sea and the Balkans and a highly efficient transit hub to Central and North Europe, the Danube River. Ariton also said Romania's economy can absorb sizeable financial resources to implement valuable projects in the fields of energy, oil and gas, agriculture and tourism.
