ACTMedia - 14 Martie 2011
Romania and Bulgaria will implement a joint procedure of cross-border monitoring, this topic being discussed during a work meeting between a delegation led by Head of Schengen Department within the Romanian Ministry of Administration and Interior (MAI) Police Chief Officer Marian Tutilescu and the officials of the counterpart ministry led by Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Interior Dimitar Georgiev, reads a MAI release sent on Friday.
The two delegations to have met on Thursday in the Bulgarian city of Ruse, on the Danube River were divided into three working groups, each assigned a discussion theme.
'In the first working group, the leaders of the two delegations discussed the evolutions in both countries towards joining the Schengen Area and reaching this common target up to a deadline within sight. The two officials also appreciated the Romanian-Bulgarian cooperation and agreed to go along with their bilateral meetings,'' reads the MAI release.
The second working group, made up of experts of the Romanian and Bulgarian police and border police, discussed the current cooperation aspects between the two countries. The group also decided to hold working sessions involving Romanian and Bulgarian experts at the border areas. The two parties agreed to hold joint operations on the Danube and actions meant to combat economic-financial criminality, along the current traffic controls and the patrols in the seaside resorts.
According to the release, the third working group, made up of officials of international cooperation structures, operative monitoring and Justice authorities, finished a common form regarding the implementation of the trans-border surveillance, part of the Schengen Agreement, and scheduling joint training sessions in this respect.
In 2008, both Romania and Bulgaria expressed their desire by a common statement to jointly adhere the Schengen Area in March 2011. Both states took measures to meet the standards in the fields of Schengen evaluation (police cooperation, visas, personal data protection, borders and the Schengen Information System).
In 2009 and 2010, there were Schengen evaluation visits in both states, performed by teams of experts of the European Union. The Schengen evaluation reports concerning Romania were officially approved in Brussels in their entirety .
