Romania and Armenia to cooperate in IT & C field

Minister of Communications Valerian Vreme discussed on Thursday, in Bucharest, with the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Government of Armenia, Manuk Vardanian, about the possibility of concluding a Memorandum of Understanding between the two ministries, for identifying and implementing cooperation in this field, the Ministry of Communications and Information Society (MCSI) informed in a release.
The Memorandum of Understanding - a possibility favored by representatives of both institutions - will aim to jointly issue a stamp series, which will display items of the cultural heritage, history and diplomatic relations between the two countries, the cooperation relations between the two ministries in the transition from analogue to digital television, their cooperation at legislative framework level in the field of information technology, as well as the development of connections between IT companies.
The Romanian Minister presented his Armenian counterpart MCSI strategy, pointing out that one of the projects MCSI has in view is broadband Internet coverage of disadvantaged areas. Also, Valerian Vreme underlined that Romania's current challenge is the information society field, computer applications being developed, particularly through European funding.
'We focus on implementing an Intranet Romanian state, with two major components: communication and information service centers, for the development and maintenance of the information applications of the state', the head of MCSI noted.
In turn, Manuk Vardanian explained the current situation in his country, both in the information technology field and the postal sector. Vardanian said that, nationally, there is a concession plan for the Armenian Postal services, and the company dealing with the issue of stamps will be included into the Posts structure.
