Romania's trade deficit decreases by EUR 286 mn in January

FOB-CIF trade deficit in January 2011 stood at 795.1 million lei (186.2 million euros), down 1.178 billion lei (286.7 million euros) compared to January 2010, according to data published on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
In January 2011, as preliminary estimates of the National Institute of Statistics reveal, FOB exports amounted to 14.596 billion lei (3.419 billion euros) and CIF imports amounted to 15.391 billion lei (3.605 billion euros). Compared with January 2010, exports increased by 51.8 percent in lei denominated values (47.8 percent in euros denominated value) and imports increased by 32.8 percent in lei denominated values (29.4 percent in euros denominated values).
As against December 2010, exports in January 2011 have increased by 3.3 percent in lei denominated values (3.9 percent in euro denominated values) and imports decreased by 12.3 percent in lei denominated values ( 11.8 percent in euro denominated values).
Intra-community trade value of goods in January 2011 stood at 10.432 billion lei (2.447 billion euro) for shipments and at 10.944 billion lei (2.567 billion euros) for entries, accounting for 71.5 percent of total exports and 71.1 percent of total imports.
In January 2011, the major share in the structure of exports and imports was held by the following groups of products: machines and transport equipment (41.8 percent for export and 35.1 percent for import) and other manufactured goods (32.4 percent for export and 30.5 percent respectively for import).
The difference between the dynamic computed based on the values expressed in lei and the calculated values in euros was determined by the depreciation of the national currency with 2.9 percent in January 2011 compared to January 2010.
