FinMin borrows nearly EUR 312 mn from banks

The Public Finances Ministry on Monday borrowed nearly 312 million euros /1.3 billion lei/ from the commercial banks by a discount T-bond issue put to auction via the National Bank of Romania.
The government bonds have a-year maturity, with the average yield at which the issue was acquired being 6.97 percent. The weighted-average discount rate was 6.51 percent.
The issue was worth a total 240 million euros /a billion lei/, with the combined demand put forward by the 12 banks participating in the auction standing at roughly 615 million euros /2.56 billion lei/.
Bidding in the auction were Alpha Bank Romania, BRD - Groupe Societe Generale, Banca Comerciala Carpatica (BCC), Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR), Banca Transilvania, Bancpost, CEC Bank, Citibank Romania, ING, Raiffeisen Bank, RBS Bank Romania and UniCredit Tiriac Bank.
In 2010, the finances ministry borrowed over 9.76 billion euros /41 billion lei/ from the domestic market, after having attracted nearly 15.47 billion euros /65 billion lei/ in 2009. Loans taken from the banks in February amounted to around 1.09 billion euros /4.61 billion lei/; some 2.88 billion euros /12.1 billion lei/ has been borrowed from the banks since the beginning of the year.
