Romanian press audience dropped over January-December 2010

The printed editions of Romanian newspapers and magazines reported audience drops compared to previous deliveries, the press market fluctuating according to the latest data supplied by the National Audience Study (NAS) over January –December 2010.
According to the latest data supplied by NAS, made by BRAT the number of readers for the written press at urban level was on the drop. More exactly the written press lost 3% of readers.According to NAS the trust with the biggest market share for the written press segment is Adevarul Holding (23%), followed by Ringier Romania (13.5%), Intact Publishing House (12.2%), Burdfa (10.7%), Sanoma Hearst (8%), Mediafax Group (7.3%), CanCan Media (4%) while the rest of 21.3% represdents other publishers, wsuch as Edipresse, R Society, etc.
The growing trend was registered by several publications such as The One (+4.5%), Gandul (+2.3%), BBC Top Gear (+13.1%), CanCan (+5.1%), Oblique TV Magazin (33.1%), Adevarul de seara (10.4%). However, most publications recorded audience drops.
As for the main dailies, the tabloid Click is the leader with 1,159,000 readers per edition, on the drop by 4.2%, followed by the Tabloid Libertatea with 1,007,000 readers per edition, on the drop by 6.2%. The two tabloids are followed by CanCan with 899,000 readers per edition, with a rise of 5.1%, followed by the sports daily Gazeta Sporturilor with 688,000 readers and a drop of 2.5%. The classification also includes Jurnalul National with 576,000 readers per edition, on the rise by 2.7%, the generalist newspaper Adevarul with 550,000 readers per edition, on the drop by 8.2% and Pro Sport, which registered 506,000 readers, on the drop by 10%. The classification of the main newspapers also includes quality daily Evenimentul zilei, with 301,000 readers per edition, on the drop by 10.9%.
Ziarul Financiar follows in the top with 183,000 readers on the average per edition, the daily Financiarul with 151,000readres and a drop of 3.2%, Romania libera newspaper with 145,000 readers, on the drop by 5.8% and the daily Gandul with 132,000 readers , on the rise by 2.3%.
As for weekly publications, the leading position is held by Sunday Click -655,000 readers, followed by Sunday Libertatea -638,000 readers, Sunday Gazeta Sporturilor – 602,000 readers, ProTV Magazin -580,000 readers and Click for Women- 551,000 readers. On the other hand the magazine 'Ce se intampla doctore?' remains segment leader among women's magazines, with 424,000 readers (-5.1%), followed by Femeia magazine with 363,000 readers (-4.2%) and Cosmopolitan with 169,000 inhabitants per edition (-8.2%).For this segment of publications, The One magazine with an audience of 93,000 readers, registered a rise of 4.5%. At the same time InStyle with an audience of 21,000 readers recorded the biggest drop of 30%.
At the same time the TV guide top is headed by ProTV Magazine, with an average audience of 580,000 per edition, despite a drop of 10.8%, followed by HBO Film Magazine (444,000 readers, -8.1%) and TV Satelit (301,000 readers, -11.2%).
As for gossip& people magazine, Ciao! Is the leader with an average of 338,000 readers per edition (-7.7%) followed by Viva with 113,000 readers, which maintains constant, Story with an average of 101,000 readers per edition, on the drop by 11.4% and Spy with 65,000 readers, on the drop by 11%.
Bravo is the leader in the classification of teen magazines, with 186,000 readers, on the drop by 4.6%, followed by Cool Girl with 158,000 readers and a drop of 3,1%, Popcorn (155,000 readers, -6.1% and Bravo Girl (140,000 readers, -10.3%).Playboy remains the leader in the men's magazine category with 141,000 readers (-9.6%), followed by FHM with 90,000 readers, on the drop by 9.1% and Men's Health with 59,000 readers, on the drop by 9.2%.
ProMotor is the leader in the top of automobile publications, with 288,000 readers, on the drop by 1.4%, followed by Auto Motor and Sport (271,000 readers, on the drop by 4.2%), BBC Top Gear (138,000 readers, +13.1%), Autoshow (105,000 readers, -4.5%) and Autobild, with an average of 57,000 readers, on the drop by 9.5%.
As for economic publications, Saptaman Financiara reported a dop of 1.7%, to 227,000 readers per edition, while Ziarul Financiar maintains constant at the level of 183,000 readers. Capital ranks third with an average of 160,000 readers (-9.6%), followed by Financiarul with 151,000 readers, with a drop of 3.2%, Forbes with 73,000 readers, Business Magazine (56,000 readers, -12.5%) and Money Express (48,000 readers, +6.7%).
Adevarul de seara ranks first in the top of local press with 1,040,000 readers, on the rise by 10.4%. It is followed by Gazeta de Sud, with 114,000 readers, -7.3%. Besides Gazeta de sud which maintains its leading positions with small audience fluctuations, both rises and drops were registered at local press level.
Data for the 35th NAS delivery were gathered by research institutes Metro Media Transylvania and Daedalus, over 18 January-19 December 2010. The sample was of 19,558 persons out of 8.867 million persons, representative for people in Romania aged between 14 and 64, living in the urban area.
NAS data were supplied for 140 publications of which 64 monthly (including Historia, Plafar, Super Pescar), 13 bi-monthly (including Forbes), 21 weekly, 33 daily and 9 supplements.
