Govt approves Romania's participation in Pact for Euro

The Government in its sitting on Wednesday March 23, approved Romania's participation in the Pact for the Euro whose goal is to promote the employment, the competitiveness, the consolidation of the public finance and to increase the financial stability in the European Union, Government spokesperson Ioana Muntean informed in a briefing at the Victoria Palace.
'During the Summit on March 23, the euro zone member states adopted the Pact for the Euro that establishes a closer coordination of the economic policies aimed at the rise in competitiveness and convergence. Practically, the Pact is an exercise in the coordination of the economic policies led by the euro area member states, but Romania is directly interested in it, given its goal to join the euro zone and adopt the euro,' spokesperson Muntean emphasized.
According to her, the Pact will be presented to the EU Council, taking place on Thursday an Friday, and when the EU countries not yet part in the euro zone are to specify whether they want to join, or not.
President Traian Basescu is participating in the EU Council spring meting in Brussels, on Thursday and Friday, when the highlights of the event's agenda include economic issues, as well.
