Switzerland finances Romanian projects worth 181 million Swiss Francs in next five years

Romanian Public Finance Minister Gheorghe Ialomitianu and Switzerland's Ambassador in Bucharest Livio Hurzeler on Friday signed an agreement on launching the 'Swiss-Romanian cooperation programme on the reduction of economic and social disparities within the extended European Union.'
The framework agreement for this programme was signed on September 7, 2010. In the next five years, Romania benefits from a financial non-refundable contribution from Switzerland, amounting to 181 million Swiss Francs, and the financial facility for technical assistance for the projects' preparing stands at 1.2 million euros.
The national coordination unit in charge of the programme's management is located within the Public Finance Ministry (MFP), and the financing is granted for projects in fields such as security, stability and reform, environment and infrastructure support, private sector promotion, social and human resources development, Minister Ialomitianu mentioned .
The Swiss Ambassador said that this programme was a new stage in the bilateral relations, being the first programme financed by Switzerland since Romania became a EU member state. Livio Hurzeler said that Switzerland had a long history of cooperation with the states of East Europe, even since the beginning of the '90s, showing its solidarity with the EU policy of reducing the disparities between the old and the new member states of the Union. The Swiss Ambassador said that the relations between Switzerland and Romania were excellent.
