ACTMedia - 4 Aprilie 2011
The Republic of Moldova is preparing to start the negotiations with the European Union for making the agreement on a free trade area and hopes that this process will be launched in the second half of this year, during the Polish Presidency of the European Council, said Moldovan Ambassador in Bucharest Iurie Renita on Friday.
'The beginning of the negotiations for creating the free trade area with the EU is an important step in the process of our country's European integration, which will make it easier to develop trade with the European Union member states, to remove tariffs, to liberalize the service trade, the free circulation of the workforce, to cut transactional costs and others,' Ambassador Renita told a conference on launching the project titled 'Preparing Moldova for a comprehensive free trade area with the European Union,' which was organized by the Department for European Affairs (DAE) and the European Institute of Romania.
The Ambassador said that, last spring, an evaluation mission made up of experts of the European Commission (EC) came to Chisinau. They submitted a report including key recommendations for the Government of the Republic of Moldova, which prepared an action plan for making the recommendations come true, and on March 14 the first progress report was submitted, which referred to the implementation of the key recommendations of the EC experts.
The Moldovan official also added that, if two years ago, trade relations with the EU countries, except for Romania, were quite modest, after the Alliance for European Integration came to power, 'possibilities for changing the orientation and diversifying exports were created.'
Attending the conference, presidential adviser for European affairs and former Commissioner Leonard Orban reiterated the fact that Romania wanted that, in a certain span of time, the Republic of Moldova should turn into an EU member state and this was a constant characteristic of the steps taken by Romania at various levels. According to the presidential adviser, the efforts of this approach in stages must be concentrated on the three goals: the free trade agreement, then the association agreement, which is fundamental, and the liberalization of visas.Head of the Department for European Affairs of the Government Bogdan Manoiu said that, thanks to the progress made by the Republic of Moldova in coming closer to the EU, the country on the other bank of the Prut started a new stage.
The project, which was launched on Friday by the European Institute of Romania, carried out in partnership with the Viitorul Institute for Development and Social Initiatives in Chisinau and financed through the Black Sea Trust programme of the German Marshall Fund, aims to train 30 workers of the central administration of the Republic of Moldova with a view to their participating in the negotiations for the free trade agreement as well as in drawing up a study on the consequences the creation of this area has on the Moldovan economy.
