Romania's international reserves exceed EUR 36 bn in March 2011

The international reserves of Romania (foreign currencies and gold) on March 31, 2011 stood at 36,123 million euros, up from 35,467 million euros on February 28, 2011, according to data with the National Bank of Romania (BNR), the reserves depositary.

On March 31, 2011, BNR's foreign exchange reserves stood at 32,767 million euros, up from 32,068 million euros on February 28, 2011.During the month, 1,720 million euros worth of inflows were recorded, representing changes in the Ministry of Public Finances' accounts (including the fourth disbursement of a loan from the European Commission), changes in the foreign exchange reserve requirements of the credit institutions, inflows into the European Commission's account, income from the management of foreign exchange reserves, a.s.o

Also in March, outflows were worth 1,021 million euros, representing changes in the foreign exchange reserve requirements of the credit institutions, interest and principal payments on public and publicly guaranteed external debt, as well as the depreciation of the U.S. dollar and pound sterling against the euro with impact on diminishing the market value of the share of foreign reserves denominated in these currencies

The gold stock held steady at 103.7 tonnes. However, following the change in the international price of gold, its value rose to 3,356 million euros.

During the month of April 2011, the payments due on public and publicly guaranteed external debt amount to 128.12 million euros.
