European fund absorption rate: 8.6% in late 2010
ACTMedia - 8 Aprilie 2011
In late 2010 Romania had a European fund absorption rate amounting to 8.6 percent of the total allocated budget, much under the 17 percent average of the countries in the area, reads the latest report of the Fiscal Council, which was published on Thursday.
According to the above-mentioned source, as it has an absorption rate that is only 8.6 percent of the total allocated budget, Romania faces serious challenges and the risk of losing European money.
Through the 47 million euros that were spent by the end of 2010 (about 1 percent of the total sum allocated for 2007-2013), POS Transport is the least performing operational programme, reads the report of the Fiscal Council. At the opposite end POR and POSDRU go on being the highest performing programmes when it comes to the absorption of structural funds in Romania, with payments amounting to 555 million euros and 464 million euros respectively, which equal 14.9 percent and 13.4 percent as regards the absorption degree.
According to the data published on Thursday, when compared with other new member states, the low absorption degree in Romania is even more obvious. Thus, by the end of 2010, Latvia used more than 1.3 billion euros (29 percent of the total) and Estonia and Poland spent 900 million euros (26 percent) and 13 billion euros (20.4 percent) respectively.
The European Union funds considered in relation to the number of inhabitants, which were absorbed by Romania, are also the lowest in the EU: 79 euros per capita as against 700 euros in Estonia and 93 euros in Bulgaria, Agerpres informs.
