Romania's exports outside EU increase by 51.6% in Q1

Romanian exports to countries outside the European Union (EU) increased during the first three months of 2011 with an average of 51.6 percent, a level that exceeds the increase recorded in the case of intra-community exports, of 35.2 percent, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Environment Business (MECMA) informs.
Exports to America grew by 63.42 percent and those to Africa and the Middle East by 47.9 percent. Among countries with significant growths there were Russia - plus 81 percent, Ukraine - plus 59 percent, Republic of Moldova - plus 39 percent, Bosnia & Herzegovina - plus 107 percent, Turkey - plus 54 percent, Serbia - plus 71 percent, Jordan - plus 222 percent, Kuwait - plus 324 percent, Saudi Arabia - plus 215 percent, UAE - plus 86 percent, Iraq - plus 124 percent, USA - 51 percent and Canada - plus 324 percent.
On March 31, the volume of Romanian FOB exports were in value of 11.02 billion euros , higher by 39.4 percent than that recorded at the end of the first quarter of 2010, and CIF imports - 12.42 billion euros, 24.8 percent higher than the same period last year.
The trade balance is lower than in the first quarter of 2010, 1.41 billion euros (down by 600 million euros).
The value of intra-community goods exchange, in the aforementioned period, was of 7.96 billion euros for exports and 8.83 billion euros for imports, representing 72.1 percent of total exports and 70.8 percent of total imports.
In the structure of exports in terms of product groups, at the end of the first quarter of this year, machines and transport equipment continued to enhance their leading position, with 42.9 percent, followed by other manufactured goods, with 32.8 percent. The figures indicate an increase in the share of exports of high added value products, a major objective of the National Export Strategy 2011-2015.
