MFP borrows EUR 278 mn from commercial banks

The Public Finance Ministry (MFP) on Monday borrowed over 278 million lei (1.12 billion lei) from the commercial banks, by issuing discount treasury bills, auctioned by the National Bank of Romania. (1 euro=4.1054 lei)
The government bonds mature in six months. They were sold for a 6.29-percent yield, with the weighted average discount rate standing at 6.13 percent.The total value of the issue amounted to 2.96 billion lei, for a demand of 2.962 billion lei from 12 banks.
Submitting bids were 12 primary dealers - Alpha Bank Romania, BRD - Groupe Societe Generale, Carpatica Commercial Bank (BCC), Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR), Transilvania Bank, Bancpost, CEC Bank, Citibank Romania, ING Bank, Raiffeisen Bank, RBS Bank Romania and UniCredit Tiriac Bank.
Since the beginning of 2011, the MFP has borrowed over 25 billion lei. In 2010, it raised over 41 billion lei from the domestic market, after drawing about 65 billion lei in 2009.
