Romanians will work 149 days in 2011 to ensure the sate expenditure, according to the data of the Independent Centre for Studies in Economics and Law (CISED). Compared with 2009, for example, this 'fiscal burden' increased by almost two weeks.
Romanians work for the state more and more each year. In 2006, Romanians worked 126 days, in 2009, 137 days, and in 2010, 147 days, to secure the budget expenses.
'On May 30, 2011, Romanian tax payers celebrate the Tax Freedom Day. The Romanian organizations promoting the free market principles organize on the occasion several events meant to draw the Romanians' attention on the high level of the taxes they pay,' reads a release of the Society for Individual Freedom.
'I believe that many of us are not aware of how many taxes they pay and how high these taxes are. But, if we add them up, it turns out that 149 days a year - almost five months - we work for the state. This thing must change before we can really talk about material welfare and a solid economy,' Individual Freedom Society chairman Claudiu Nasui said. The organizations promoting libertarian principles in Romania will organize on the occasion several events within which they will present the public how much the 'free' services granted by the state really cost.
