Michelin invests over 265 million euros over decade operating in Romania

The Michelin Group, world leader in tyre-manufacturing segment, has invested more than 265 million euros and produced more than 450,000 tyres over its ten year it has been operating in Romania, according to data issued on Thursday by new manager of local branch and the Balkans Eric Faidy, during an informal meeting with the press.
'All these results marking our first decade of activity in Romania would not have been possible without the effort from the team, our most valuable resource. Today, each employee benefits from a career plan, we have an annual average of more than 60 hours of development per employee, training courses and experience exchange at an international level. More than 50 percent of our employees have been with Michelin for these ten years,' Faidy said. According to quoted data, the Michelin investments in Romania exceeded 265 million euros, and the company has now, after ten years of activity, almost 3,000 employees and three production units at the highest international standards. Michelin operates on the Romanian market at the moment two tyre-manufacturing units at Floresti (Prahova County, southern Romania) and Zalau (Salaj County, north-western Romania), a greenfield production unit built in 2004 for metallic tyre-cord in Zalau as well, a tyre recycling area, a cartography team to make maps and guides and a national trade network. The Michelin plants in Romania manufacture tyres for cars, Michelin, BF Goodrich, Kormoran and Kleber to be exported on the markets in Europe, North America and Asia. Various types of truck tyres are manufactured in Romania, radial tyres with inner air tube and tubeless tyres under the associated brands such as Taurus, Kormoran, Riken, Michelin industrial tyres, as well as tyres supplying the forklifts, the machinery operating in underground mines. The world leader in the tyre segment entered the Romanian market in 2001, once they bought the Victoria Floresti plant from Tofan Group, followed shortly afterwards by the acquisition of Silvania plant in Zalau. in 2005, Michelin Romania became the regional centre for the Balkans (Michelin RoBa), coordinating the production and trade operations in Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia, apart from the local activity. Between 2001 and 2010, the local division of the French group reached a production in excess of 450,000 tonnes of tyres and more than 150,000 tonnes of metallic tyre-cord. World leader in the tyre field, the company is headquartered in France, in Clermont-Ferrand, and is present in 170 countries having more than 111,000 employees all over the world and 70 plants in 18 countries.
