Romanian President supports country reorganized into eight counties

Romanian President Traian Basescu on Wednesday asked the Government to consider the country's reorganization into eight counties or seven counties and Bucharest, pointing out that the current administrative organization into 41 counties favors corruption and hinders EU fund absorption.
The head of state said the country's current administrative organization dates back to 1968. He highlighted that the administrative organization law which took effect in 1968 has never been amended.
Basescu said a new administrative system would eliminate red tape and would step up the decentralization process.
