Statistics: Romania's GDP up 1.7% in Q1, 2011

Romania's Gross Domestic Product predicted for the first quarter of 2011 exceeded 106.723 billion lei, by 1.7 percent higher in real terms against the same period of 2010, according to figures released by the National Statistics Institute (INS).
The industry sector recorded the highest increase in the activity volume, namely 10.1 percent, followed by trade, car repair services and household fixing services, hotels and restaurants, transport and telecommunications, by 1.1 percent.
Significant declines in the activity volume have been registered by other services (minus 6.1 percent), financial, real estate, renting activities and also services for enterprises (minus 3.2 percent) and in construction services too (minus 2.4 percent). The other sectors such as the agriculture, hunting and forestry, fishing and fishery recorded a lower decline (minus 0.4 percent).
The improved net export had a positive effect upon the GDP, following the significant increase in the volume of the exports of goods and services (plus 23.6 percent) compared to the volume of imports (plus 15.4 percent).
