Budget deficit climbed in May to 1.2% of GDP

According to preliminary data, the budget deficit climbed by 0.4% in May, reaching EUR 1.4 bn (1.2% of GDP). At the end of April the budget deficit reached only 0.8% of GDP, boosted by an increase in VAT, excises and non-fiscal revenues.
The target budget deficit for 2011 agreed with the IMF stands at 4.4%.
