Eurostat:Romania records sixth-largest decline in construction works in EU in April

Romania reported the sixth-largest decline in construction works, namely 0.3 percent in April 2011 among the European Union member states, compared with the previous month, while the volume of construction works in the EU plunged by 0.9 percent, according to the figures released by the EU's Official Statistics Office Eurostat on Friday.
Higher declines have been registered also in Great Britain (minus 13.4 percent), Germany (minus 5.7 percent), Portugal (minus 4.0 percent), the Czech Republic and Slovenia (minus 2.8 percent) and Bulgaria (2.7 percent). According to the data available at this moment, only three EU member states posted a surge in construction works in March, against Feb. while construction works in eight member states have plummeted from month to month.
In April 2011 compared to April 2010 the volume of construction works went down 2.0 percent in the Euro zone and by 1.2 percent in the EU. According to the available figures, the volume of construction works fell in eight member states (including in Romania) and it surged in four member states. The highest decreases have been recorded in Slovenia (minus 27.3 percent), Bulgaria (minus 22.8 percent), Spain (minus 16.9 percent), Portugal and Slovakia (minus 5.2 percent), the Czech Republic (minus 4.6 percent) and Romania (minus 4.3 percent).
According to Agerpres, data released by the National Statistics Institute (INS) indicate that construction output has dropped in the first four months of 2011 in unadjusted terms by 4.7 percent against the same period of 2010 and by 4.5 percent in seasonally adjusted terms.
