Trade between Romania and China stands at USD 1.24 bn in 2011

Commercial exchanges between Romania and China amounted to 1,24 billion dollars in the first four months of 2011, by 12 percent higher than the volume recorded in the same period of last year, Chinese ambassador to Bucharest Liu Zengwen said in Targu Mures (north-west of Bucharest) on Friday.
'The bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation between China and Romania (...) are constantly developing, the close and mutual high-level contacts have never stopped existing. The economic and trade relations have developed at a rapid pace from 190 million dollars right after 1989 up to 3.7 billion dollars in 2010. The volume of commercial exchanges stood at 1.24 billion dollars in the first four months (of 2011 - editor's note) surging by 12 percent from the same period of 2010,' the Chinese ambassador said.
He stressed that also the technical-scientific cooperation has flourished over the years and that although the internal and international situation has changed a lot, it 'did not had a negative influence upon the development and diversification of the bilateral ties.' According to Agerpres, Ambassador Liu Zengwen also said that China is interested in investing in Romania in the renewable energy sector, infrastructure, agriculture, environment and tourism.
China plans to invest in road infrastructure in Romania
Chinese Ambassador to Bucharest, H.E. Liu Zengwen said that Chinese businessmen are interested to invest in the road infrastructure in Romania, including in highways but big investments need to be assured with state warrantees, news agency Mediafax reports.
The Ambassador said that Chinese and Romanian authorities had talks about a collaboration in developing road infrastructure and representatives of some Chinese companies made some research trips to Romania, talked about technical issues. The Chinese official said that there are some problems that still need to be addressed, seeking solutions that would be the best for both parties.
He said that Chinese investors need to know the legal framework very well before investing for that advantages to be twofold. The investment is not for free, the Ambassador said. He said that for very big investments the state needs to ensure the investment through state warrantees or commercial warrantees and at the moment the state cannot offer them, being conditioned by the IMF and EU budgetary deficit target.
