Romanian Greek dialogue on Cyprus' situation and prospects of resolving Middle East problem

Greece's President Karolos Papoulias said on Tuesday that Romania's President Traian Basescu and he were discussing the prospects of resolving the Middle East problem, issues of a particular importance and common interest.

'I informed President Basescu about the Cyprus issue, which is the single case of invasion and occupation, in the EU territory, and which must be put an end to. It is paradoxical and inadmissible that invasion troops should exist and station on the territory of a European state, at this time. We were also discussing the latest developments in the Middle East, and the prospects of resolving the Middle East problem, which are issues of a particular importance and of interest for our countries. I warmly thank my friend for such interesting talks. I wish him all the best, and progress and prosperity to our friend the Romanian people,' Greece's President said in the statement he made at the Cotroceni Palace.

He also reviewed the excellent prospects of the development of economic ties between Romania and Greece.'The Greek Romanian Business Forum taking place today and tomorrow mirrors the dynamic of the Greek Romanian ties, and we hope they will continue to offer new opportunities of enlargement to the economic and commercial cooperation between our countries. I particularly have in mind the energy field and I want to underscore fields such as the natural gas, the renewable energy, and the electricity,' President Papoulias pointed out.In turn, President Traian Basescu declared that Greece is the fifth investor in Romania in the banking sector, food sector, telecommunications and others. All the seven banks that operate on the Romanian market have a good behavior and do well and honest, Basescu said

In sideline of the visit the Geek President is paying to Romania, Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi and his Greek counterpart Stavros Lambrinidis signed a memorandum of understanding on agriculture, between Greece and Romania.
