Eurostat: Prices in Bulgaria and Romania are the lowest in the EU
ACTMedia - 30 Iunie 2011
Denmark had, in 2010, the highest prices in the European Union for goods and services ( 143% among EU27), the lowest prices being recorded in Bulgaria (51%) in the EU) and Romania (59%) according to the data published on Tuesday by the European Office of Statistics (Eurostat).
By categories, in the case of food and non-alcoholic drinks the lowest prices were recorded in Bulgaria (66% of the EU27) followed by Romania (67% of the EU27) at the other end being Denmark (136%).
Bulgaria and Romania have the lowest prices ( both with 64% of the EU27) and for alcoholic drinks and tobacco, the highest prices being recorded in Ireland ( 170%). Eurostat says that this variation of prices is due to the differences in which taxes are applied to the produce among the member states.
Slight variations of prices are recorded in the case of clothes, the cheapest being recorded in Bulgaria (75%) and the most expensive in Sweden (126%). In Romania, clothes are close to the EU27 average (94%) higher than in Spain (90%) and the UK (89%).
Electronic equipment is another category of products with slight variations among the member states from 89% of the average in the case of Bulgaria to 115% in the case of Sweden. Again, in Romania prices are close to the average in the EU (96%).
In restaurants and hotels, the price variations are more significant, from 45% in the EU27 in Bulgaria and 50% in Romania up to 153% of the average in Denmark.
