Romania to benefit from higher European funds in 2014-2020
ACTMedia - 7 Iulie 2011
Romania will be one of the countries to benefit from higher European funds from the European Union budget for the period between 2014 and 2020, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Ciolos told a press conference on Wednesday.
'Romania must prove they need these funds and are able to make good use of them. The agriculture will play a major role within the next budget with a 371.7 billion euros amount, to which 15.2 billion euros are added as financial availability related to the common agriculture policy,' Ciolos said.
According to the official, the European budget for 2014-2020 will represent 1.05 percent of the European Union GDP and focuses on certain European priorities.
'The European budget is not similar to the national budgets. The European budget is made over seven years and focuses on certain European priorities. The budget on 2014 to 2020 is 1.025 billion euros representing 1.05 percent of the European Union GDP. A budget 95 percent of which will return to the member states by funded projects,' Ciolos explained.
Cereal stock exchange, key to Romania becoming a real player on regional market
Romania will have the opportunity to become a real player on the regional and European market of cereals the moment they have a cereals stock market and futures markets are organized in Romania, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Ciolos told a forum on the new challenges related to food safety in South-East Europe, held on Wednesday.
'If we take a look on the agro-economic map of Europe and of the European Union, there are no such instruments in this region. All of them are concentrated towards the EU region bordering the ocean, namely what comes and goes to the US. The cereals in the Black Sea region are a topic of discussion because of the two large-size players: Russia and Ukraine. However, the central, eastern and south-eastern part of the continent is hardly organized to compete on these markets where the cereals' prices are set,' Ciolos said.
According to him, Romania will have no decisional weight unless they have a transparent cereals market.
'So long as there is neither transparency on the cereals market nor storage capacities and the cereals producers will not get involved in managing and organizing the storage capacities and a cereals stock market, the games involving the Romanian farmers' work will be made elsewhere,' Commissioner Dacian Ciolos added.
The challenges on the South-East Europe food safety in the new global context, as well as the role of the European common agricultural policy are the topics discussed on Wednesday by the ministries of agriculture in this region, within the 'Agriculture and Agribusiness in South-East Europe' conference devoted to Bucharest only, Agerpres informs.
Among those attending the event there are Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry in the Republic of Moldova Vasile Bumacov, Director for Agricultural Policy and International relations within the Ministry of Agriculture, Fishery and Rural Development in Croatia Miroslav Bozic as well as European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Ciolocs and Romanian Minister of Agriculture Valeriu Tabara.
No risk that Romania-assigned structural funds for agriculture are suspended
There is no risk that the structural funds for agriculture assigned to Romania are suspended, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Ciolos told a press conference on Wednesday. 'We have no reason whatsoever to suspend funds for agriculture or rural development. Also, I am not aware of any risk that the budget for other projects is suspended. However, this very much depends on how things carry on,' said Ciolos. According to Commissioner Dacian Ciolos, Romania will be one of the countries to benefit from higher net European funds from the EU budget for the period 2014 - 2020, but that 'it is important for our country to prove that it needs these funds and is able to use them.'
