Analyst'reaction: Liviu Voinea - the decrease of inflation in June is not a significant evolution
ACTMedia - 12 Iulie 2011
The manager of the Group of Applied Economy Liviu Voinea considers that the decrease of inflation recorded in June does not represent a significant evolution as starting with autumn the increase of gas price and excises will be evident.
« I don't think this drop of inflation is a significant evolution. There will be in July another drop due to the basic effect, by comparison to July 2010 when there was a VAT increase. Probably, there will be an annual inflation of 7% but then there will be the effect of gas price increase and excise increase » stated for Monday for Agerpres the manager of the Group for applied economy Liviu Voinea.
He considers that inflation is structural in Romania. « Inflation, in my opinion, is structural in Romania and we will have the highest inflation in Europe, if we don't solve the structural issues of the economy. For example, we will have big prices for food, not because there are high prices on the world level but because we can't produce sufficiently and we continue to import. The same with energy, we have big tariffs as we don't have deregulated prices. These are structural causes » Liviu Voinea said.
As regards the meeting of inflation prognosis for 2011, the GEA head considers that it will not happen. « We don't think that we will meet the prognosis for inflation and I don't think it is important. With inflation there were some adjustments. It had a role of adjustment. If the income increased in nominal terms, it increased due to inflation and the salary cuts were also based on inflation. I don't think that the government wishies a small inflation although the National Bank says so » Liviu Voinea said.
Ilie Serbanescu - the drop in prices, a conjecture
The drop in consumption prices in June is just a conjecture but starting with the autumn the prices could grow again on the basis of tariffs for energy, especially natural gas, the analyst Ilie Serbanescu stated on Monday for Agerpress. « The drop in prices is just a conjecture. BNR cannot meet the inflation target, especially in November – December we will have an inflation increase due to gas prices, for example. The 30 percentages of increase announced for natural gas will not be supported by companies only, they will be also reflected on the population » Ilie Serbanescu said.
He also said that BNR will have a problem once the rating agencies confirmed the ratings with stable perspective. « The fight with the inflation is a story of the BNR governor Mugur Isarescu. Now he has a different problem, the ratings will bring foreign capital and the Central Bank does not have the necessary mechanisms to fight them, they will have to print money and it will be inflation » the economic analyst said.
