MRCMA: Romania’s exports keep their rising tendency

Romanian exports recorded in May 2011 a 27.1% dynamics, similar value to the growth rate of exports recorded in 2010 ( 28.1%), the record year for exports of the last two decades, the Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Business Environment (MECMA) says. According to a MECMA press release, the tendency to grow of Romanian exports will continue over the first four months of 2011 ( increase of 33.3%) and is kept in this way, the growth rhythm of exports for a consecutive period of 19 months ( constantly positive).
The structure of exports over the first five months of 2011 shows a constant improvement, the share of products from machine building industry and transport equipment being 42.2%. Out of the total of Romanian exports, 75.5% represent manufactured goods.
Comparatively to the same period of 2010, over the first five months of 2011, FOB exports of Romania were worth 18.23 billion euro, higher by 32%. At the same time, the volume of imports is 21.87 billion euro, which represents an increase of 23% against the first five months of 2010.
Over the first five months of 2011 there is a trend of increase of exports to countries outside the EU ( 40.2% increase against an increase of 29.1% in EU countries), especially in countries less affected by the crisis or which relaunched the economic growth. This value is a record dynamics, which has not been reached in the domain of commercial foreign relations over the last 20 years, thus having the first results of measures and actions of MECMA to determine the orientation of exports towards countries less affected by the crisis.
Among the countries to which Romanian exports went with significant increase is - Japan – 32.52% increase of exports ( auto parts, bearings, electrical devices, glass products, wines, etc.) Canada – increase of 138.27% of exports ( electrical machines and devices, boilers and nuclear equipment, airplane parts) US – increase of 46.68% ( auto parts, chemical fertilisers) Mexico – increase of over 17% ( tyres, rugs, siderurgial products, optical instruments, auto parts), the Russian Federation – 67.91% increase ( auto parts, refrigerators and furniture), Ukraine – over 152% increase ( mineral products, electrical machines and equipment, cars and auto parts) and Turkey – 24.41% increase ( mineral products, chemical products, metal products, electrical machines and devices, cars and auto parts, etc.)
As regards Japan, MECMA defined a personalised strategy, in collaboration with the Association of Exporters and Importers of Romania (ANEIR) through which to support exports to this country in the conditions of reconstruction of certain areas affected by natural hazards.
At the same time, there is a series of other coutries where increase of over 50% of exports were recorded such as Azerbaidjan (95,71%), Kazahstan (143,45%), Serbia (64,3%), Bosnia Hertegovina (77,73%), South Africa (191,14%), United Arabic Emirates (104,61%), Jordan (156,11%), Tunis(190,55%), Iraq (92,58%), Kuweit (327,63%), Afganistan (151,63), Pakistan (191,8%), Singapore (111,19%), Vietnam (77,02%), Columbia (75,89%) etc.
Referring to the characteristics of Romanian imports over the first five months of 2011, MECMA mentions that CIF imports for May 2011 were 4.95 billion euro and have an inferior rhythm of growth ( as compared to exports) of 23.4%, which shows investment in the productive activity was kept and the diminution of consumption in Romania.
Imports continue to be made up, on the one hand, of goods of investment or industrial products of completion for the Romanian industry ( 64.1%) and on the other hand, of energy ( 11.6%) and raw materials and materials ( 3.8%). Agricultural produce represented 7% of imports, compared to 5.1% of exports.
The geographical orientation of imports did not record a major amednment for the first five places being occupied by Germany, Italy, Hungary, France and China with over 48% of imports, the Russian Federation, - important supplier of raw materials, - 4% of imports.
