Eurostat: Romania records also in June highest annual inflation rate in EU

June 2011 was the 11th consecutive month in which Romania recorded the highest annual inflation rate in the European Union (EU) - 8.0%, followed at a distance by Estonia - 4.9% and Lithuania - 4.8%, according to the data made public on Thursday by the European Statistical Office (Eurostat).
Whereas in Romania the annual inflation rate fell to 8.0% in June from 8.5% May, in the eurozone it remained the same at 2.7% and in the EU it fell slightly to 3.1% in June, from 3.2% in April. The countries with the lowest annual inflation rate were Sweden (1.5%), Slovenia (1.6%) and the Czech Republic (1.9%).
According to Eurostat, compared with May 2011, annual inflation rate fell in 14 member states (including Romania), remained stable in six states and rose in six countries.
Romania ranks first in the EU also in terms of average rise in prices in the last 12 months, with an advance of 7.8%, followed by Estonia (4.7%) and Greece (4.9%). Sweden (1.5%), the Czech Republic and Netherlands (both with 1.8% rise) rank the lowest in this respect.
According to the data presented by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), the Consumer Price Index in Romania fell in June by 0.29% compared with May, with the annual inflation rate having reached 7.93%.
