Prospects for Romanian-Bulgarian trade discussed in Bucharest

Romanian Minister of Economy, Trade and Business Milieu Ion Ariton and Bulgarian Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Traycho Traykov on Monday discussed in Bucharest the latest developments in and prospects for commercial exchanges between Romania and Bulgaria, the Romanian Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business Milieu reports in a news release.
The two ministers highlighted a sustained pace of economic cooperation, both bilaterally and as part of cooperation within international organisations and regional initiatives.
Also discussed were themes of interest to bilateral cooperation in the field of energy, including the interconnection of the Romanian and Bulgarian electricity markets, building energy compounds on the Danube, electricity transmission and the latest developments in the regional projects of European relevance.
Trade between Romania and Bulgaria peaked up at 2.8 billion euros in 2010. At the end of Q1, 2011, commercial exchanges advanced 39 percent from the similar period of the year before.
As of March 31, 2011, there were 1,307 Romanian-Bulgarian joint stocks registered in Romania with a paid up capital of 33.2 million euros, and 272 companies running on full Romanian capital registered in Bulgaria, especially in Sofia, Ruse, Plovdiv and Varna.
The vast majority of Romanian and Bulgarian investors are small and medium-sized companies, which is said to provide greater flexibility in meeting foreign market demands.
