China Town shopping area at Afumati
ACTMedia - 20 Iulie 2011
Prime Minister Emil Boc on Tuesday attending the opening of the China Town shopping area at Afumati, near Bucharest City, that aims to become the largest such shopping area in Europe after office buildings and a residential quarter will be built there.
Romania is waiting for Chinese investments in energy, transportation and the environment, which way has been paved by the new law on public-private partnerships, said Boc.
'We are waiting for Chinese investments in energy, transportation and the environment that will consolidate the existing extraordinary friendship and cooperation relationships between China and Romania,' said Boc.
He congratulated the local administrations for having displayed openness to Chinese investors, encouraging other Romanian local administration to follow suit.
Boc said that this is the best moment for foreign investors to come to Romania, because Romania has won back the label of investment grade from international credit rating agencies.
He said the financial state of the country is better now, with just a 4.4 percent deficit and a public debt of just 30 percent of the Gross Domestic Product, which makes the country better prepared for any impact of any new economic meltdown, unlike in 2008, when it was taken aback by the first wave of the global economic crisis.
Attending the opening ceremony, Chinese ambassador Liu Zengwen said Prime Minister Boc gave an important signal about Romania's openness to Chinese investors. He voiced conviction that many more Chinese investments will start pouring into Romania.
The China Town compound is located 16 km from downtown Bucharest. The first part of the development, which opened today, covers 40 hectares and is the biggest shopping centre in South-Eastern Europe, with 3,275 shopping outlets and 1,380 logistics warehouses. Traded here will be mainly Chinese imports at producer prices. Developers say the entire value of the China Town development was 100 million euros. This China Town is a miniature city home to the local Chinese community, similar to the homologous towns in New York, San Francisco, Sydney, Paris and London.
