ACPR after IMF meeting: Romania urgently needs a ministry of European funds
ACTMedia - 25 Iulie 2011
Deputy Chairman of the Alliance of Romania's Employers' Association Confederations (ACPR) Dan Matei Agathon, on Friday presented the conclusions drawn after a meeting with head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Jeffery Franck, highlighting the need for a ministry of European funds being set in place.
'This was a usual meeting that evaluated the current economic state in Romania, because both the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission and the mission of the European Union have to verify Romania's meeting its obligations under the precautionary arrangement. The two organisations wanted in fact to listen to the pulse of the Romanian economy as felt by the employers' associations,' Agathon told Agerpres.
He insisted that Romania urgently needs a ministry of European funds. 'I have asked Jeffrey Franks to insist with the Romanian Government on this need, so that a ministry may be created that will comprise all the authorities that may access European funds. The ministry should be tasked with cutting by 90 percent the waiting time for getting European funds,' said Agathon.
He also asked for the privatisation of the management departments of the companies highly indebted to the state budget to be sped up. He said the IMF official is closely watching the selection of managers, who should prove real working skills in a real competitive environment.
ACPR again suggested that the employers' social security contributions be curtailed by 4 percent.
'Romania is the country that has the highest labour costs, but the IMF chief said we have to be careful not to overshot the deficit target set for this year,' said Agathon.
