Survey: Only a quarter of Romanian employees believe they are properly paid for their work
ACTMedia - 26 Iulie 2011
Only 25 percent of Romanian employees believe they are properly paid for the activity they carry out, while the rest of 75 percent say they are quite satisfied with the conditions at their current job, concludes the survey 'The Quality of Low Salary Employment,' carried out by the experts with the Office for Labour Market and Job Quality Monitoring within the National Trade Union Bloc (BNS).
Only 70.51 percent of the households nationwide can say they have earnings higher than the minimum consumption basket, estimated at 980 lei (approximately 232 euros).
In terms of distribution by employers, the INS data show that 78 percent of the low-income employees work with private enterprises and only 12.2 percent with state-owned companies.
The highest rate of those working on low wages is made up of persons who graduated from vocational, apprenticeship or complementary schools, followed by the high school graduates and secondary education graduates. This does not imply that the persons who have not graduated from any school or who have only graduated from primary school rank in a different salary category, only that it is very difficult for them to find a job. For this reason, they need the state aid on an almost permanent basis.
The development stage of a region also ranks among the variables influencing the salary level. Therefore, the lowest salaries are registered in the northeastern region of Romania, while the highest are registered in the Bucharest-Ilfov area.
