ACTMedia - 29 Iulie 2011
The commercial exchanges between Romania and Turkey in the first quarter of 2011 accounted for 1.57 billion euros, increasing approximately 30 percent compared with the same period of 2010, placing Turkey on the fourth position in the chart of most significant foreign investors in Romania, according to the data remitted by the Turkish Businessmen Association (TIAD).
Exports exceeded 964 million euros, while imports amounted to about 605 million euros.
Among the main groups of traded products, metals lead the ranking by far. Besides metals, the Romanian-Turkish commercial exchanges focused on the sectors of electrical equipment and cars, mineral and vegetal products, but also on chemical products, plastics and textiles.
'Romania is a country with a significant economic potential. In spite of the difficult economic conditions the entire economy is faced with, the Turkish businesspeople operating in Romania are confident in the growth potential of this country and continue their investment plans as before,' TIAD president Omer Susli said.
Turkey is one of Romania's most important partners within the commercial exchanges outside the EU and, starting with 2008, the third export destination in terms of volume.
According to the official data, around 12,000 Turkish capital companies are registered in Romania, with a total value standing at over 520 million euros. The statistics do not include the Turkish investors operating in Romania through branches registered in other countries, such as the Netherlands, the United Kingdom or Germany.
Taking into account the above-mentioned investments, too, the Turkish Businessmen Association estimate the Turkish investments in Romania exceed 1.5 billion euros.
The Turkish Businessmen Association is a non-profit organization, established in 1993, at the initiative of Turkish businessmen in Romania and has as main objective the development of the economic, social and cultural relations between Turkey and Romania. At present, TIAD has approximately 146 members.
The Association members operate in the field of electrical and electronic equipment, chemical products and plastics, transports, machinery construction, industry, trade, finance-banks, food industry, textiles, tourism, constructions.
