Treichl: Romania needs 'infrastructure, infrastructure, infrastructure'
ACTMedia - 1 August 2011
The executive chairman of the Erste group Andreas Treichl is optimistic as regards the resumption of creditation in Romania and hoped the economy comes back strongly enough, so that it faces some possible slidings caused by the elections in 2012.
'I hope that by October next year the economy comes back strongly enough, so that it can cope with possible slippages due to elections' Trechl said in a press conference in Vienna, posted on the bank's site.
Asked about what Romania needs, Treichl said ' infrastructure, infrastructure, infrastructure'.
The head of Erste was optimistic when discussing the coming back of trust and the resumption of creditation in the next period, showing that the authorities in Bucharest have money available from the EU and started to invest in the construction of roads and infrastructure of electricity ' We are convinced that the Romanians like to spend and in general they are trustful consumers, and Romania has at hand big sums which can be drawn from the European Union. Romania has started to invest in road construction, in electricity infrastructure and we are happy to report positive figures for Romania even if they were weaker than in 2010' Treichl said.
The BCR group got in Q2 a profit of 82 million lei, up from 76.1 million in the first three months. The result in Q2 is only one third of the period in 2010 due to the decrease in income and high provision.
The government estimate show an advance of GDP of 1.5% this year and 3.5-4% in 2012.
