Romanian Central Bank's international reserves dip to EUR 32.68 bn at end-July

The foreign exchange reserves of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) stood at EUR 32.680 billion, by 5 pct less than the EUR 34.402 billion in the central bank's vaults on June 30 2011.

According to a BNR release, July's operations were as follows: inflows stood at EUR 1.372 billion, representing feeds to the Ministry of Public Finances' accounts, changes in the foreign exchange reserve requirements of the credit institutions, incomes from the management of foreign exchange reserves, a.s.o. Outflows totaled EUR 3.094 billion representing interest and principal payments on foreign currency public debt (including the amount of EUR 2.6 billion pertaining to the reimbursement of the euro-denominated internal public debt), changes in the foreign exchange reserve requirements of the credit institutions, outflows from the European Commission's account, a.s.o.

The gold stock kept steady at 103.7 tonnes, worth a total of EUR 3.767 bln at the current international price of gold. On July 31, 2011, the international reserves of Romania (foreign currencies and gold) amounted to EUR 36.447 bln, compared to EUR 37.873 bln on June 30th 2011.Payments due in August 2011 on account of the direct or MFP-secured foreign currency denominated public debt total EUR 205 million.
