Traian Hristea appointed to position of head of EU delegation in Yerevan
ACTMedia - 4 August 2011
The Romanian diplomat Traian Hristea was appointed to the position of head of the EU delegation in Yerevan, informs the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) in a release it sent on Wednesday.
'Thus Traian Hristea joins the elite of the European diplomatic corps, which is called upon to manage the general framework of the relations between the EU and its partner states the world over, to promote and protect the interests and value of the Union. The appointment of the Romanian diplomat to this important position of the European External Action Service [EEAS] is a recognition of both the merits of the Romanian candidate and the reputation of the Romanian diplomacy,' reads the above-mentioned release.
The appointment of the Romanian diplomat, says MAE, reflects the 'constant efforts' made by the institution for an adequate training of the Romanian candidates for the EEAS as well as the 'extensive political and diplomatic campaign' permanently conducted with a view to promoting some Romanian diplomats at all decision-making levels of the Service.
By Traian Hristea being nominated for the position of head of the EU delegation in Yerevan Romania gets a new leading position in the EEAS after the nomination, late last year, of Ambassador Viorel Isticioaia for the position of managing director for Asia.
According to MAE, currently there are 15 Romanians in the Service, nine of whom in the central headquarters in Brussels and six in the EU delegations.
'The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue the steps it has taken for actively promoting national candidacies for the EEAS with a view to ensuring Romania's significant presence on a par with the high expertise of the Romanian diplomats in various fields,' also says MAE.
Traian Hristea has been a member of Romania's diplomatic and consular corps since 1995, was Romania's Ambassador in Kiev over 2005-2010 and headed the prognosis and political planning directorate of the MAE central office in 2010-2011.
