Average salary in June – 1472 lei, 14 lei more than in May

In June 2011, the average gross nominal salary was 2026 lei, 0.9% more than in May, according to the National Statistics Institute. In net terms the average salary was 1472 lei and the increase 14 lei (1%). The highest values of the average nominal wages was registered in the financial field (3948 lei) and the lowest in hotels and restaurants (866 lei).
The real salary index for June 2011 compared to the previous month, calculated as ratio between the net nominal salary and the consumer price index was 101.3%.In June 2011, in most activities in the economic sector, the level of the net average salary was higher than in May, because of occasional bonuses, sums from the net profit and other funds (gift tickets) or very high incomes (according to contracts).
Lower net average salaries were recorded in the economic sector because of low production or low incomes, financial difficulties faced by some economic units and employees with low salaries.
Compared to July 2010 (when the 25% cuts of gross salaries were applied, according to law 118/2010) the net average salary in June 2011 grew by 16% in the budget sector in health and social security, by 14.6% in education and 10.1% in public administration.
Compared to October 2010 (reference month for the application of a 15% increase of gross salaries) net average salaries in June 2011 in the budget sector were 16.4% higher in public administration, 14.1% in health and 11.6% in education.
