Foreign residents in Romania will pay taxes the second year after getting the status
ACTMedia - 24 August 2011
Foreign citizens resident in Romania will pay taxes on incomes obtained both in the country and abroad in the first year after receiving the status of residents and not after 3 years as the present law stipulates, according to a draft order which amends the Fiscal Code.
'These incomes will be taxed beginning with the first year after a person becomes resident in Romania, at the same time with receiving the right for deduction Romanian citizens have,' the draft order says.
At present, a non resident person who fulfills the conditions of residence in Romania for three years pays taxes on incomes obtained from any source, both from Romania and abroad, beginning with the fourth fiscal year.
In order to be considered resident a natural person has to live in Romania for more then 183 days per year, or to be a Romanian citizen working abroad as Romania's employee in a foreign state.
At the same time, the Finance Ministry maintained the obligation to pay taxes a Romanian resident living in Romania for three years after changing residence in a state with which Romania has signed conventions for avoiding double taxes.
