Unemployment rate in Romania, slightly higher in August by 4.8%

The unemployment rate in Romania reported a 0.03 percent increase in August 2011 as compared to the previous month, up to 4.8 percent, whereas it went down by 2.61 percent on a year-on-year basis, reveal the statistics published by the National Employment Agency (ANOFM).
The total number of unemployed reported in the records of the county employment agencies was 437,811 people, 2,659 people more than the the end of the previous month figures.
As regards the gender-distributed unemployment rate, the one for men dropped from 5 percent in July to 4.93 percent in August, whereas the rate of the unemployed women went up from 4.51 to 4.65 percent. The highest figures of the unemployment rate were reported in Vaslui County (eastern Romania) (8.83 percent).
ANOFM data reveal that 150,127 unemployed received social aid whereas 287,684 did not, out of the total reported in Romania. The number of unemployed receiving aid went down by 1,152 people in August and the number of the unemployed who did not receive went up by 3,811 people compared to the previous month .
