Bilateral trade between Romania and Russian Federation, up nearly 36% in H1, 2011

Bilateral trade between Romania and the Russian Federation advanced 35.7 percent in H1, 2011 from H1, 2010, to $2.54 billion, the Romanian Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business Milieu (MECMA) reports in a press release.
Romanian exports to Russia stood at $738.6 million, up 52.4 percent, while imports from Russia reached $1.804 billion, up 29.9 percent.
Data with MECMA indicate that the bilateral trade between the two countries was standing at $3.8 billion as of end-2010, up 34.9 percent from end-2009, of which Romanian exports were worth $1.1 billion, up 53.1 percent year-over-year. Imports from Russia totalled $2.7 billion in 2010.
Romanian Minister of Economy Ion Ariton on Thursday welcomed Russian ambassador in Bucharest Alexander Churilin to discuss bilateral commercial and economic cooperation between Romania and the Russian Federation and the latest developments in the preparations for the 10th session of the Romanian-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Technical and Scientific Cooperation, which is scheduled for October 3-4, 2011 in Moscow.
The two officials also underscored the importance of the joint committee resuming works after four years, pointing to the demarches of late by the two countries to organise in Bucharest the bilateral meetings of various working groups of the committee and the meeting of the joint committee's deputy chairs.
The latest developments in the negotiations over the Russian Federations' accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) were also discussed.
