Eurostat: Romania, second in EU in terms of construction works in July

Romania reported the second largest growth in the EU regarding the construction works (3.3 percent) in July 2011, on a month-on-month basis, as the amount of the construction works in the Union went up by 0.3 percent and by 1.4 percent in the eurozone, reveal data made public by the Eurostat, the European statistic bureau.
Four member states of the European Union reported an increase in the construction works in July 2011 compared to the previous month, while the works were less numerous in number in eight countries. The highest boosts were reported in Slovenia (10.3 percent), Romania (3.3 percent), Germany with 3.2 percent and Poland with 1.2 percent, whereas the heaviest slumps were reported in the United Kingdom (minus 4.3 percent), Sweden (minus 3.1 percent) and Portugal (minus 2.8 percent).
On a year-on-year basis, the amount of works in went up in July 2011 by 1.2 percent in the eurozone and 0.2 percent in the European Union. The available data reveal that Romania reported the second largest increase in the EU in terms of construction works (14.4 percent) in July 2011, as compared to the similar period in 2010.
The amount of the construction works went down in nine member states and went up in four. The heaviest downfalls were reported in Slovenia (minus 26.6 percent), Bulgaria (minus 13.3 percent), Portugal (minus 10.7 percent), Sweden (minus 10.2 percent) and the highest values in Poland (17.4 percent), Romania (14.4 percent), Spain (12.5 percent) and Germany (5.4 percent).
